Training
The Hire Intern Course has been designed to give the participants, the skills necessary to create an effective and persuasive application, to pass an interview, succeed at their internship and secure permanent employment. Participants will work on their skills to present themselves and their skills needed to integrate themselves into an office setting. In addition to this the course will introduce about some of the quirks of Canadian business culture that may put up an obstacle between the job seeker and permanent employment.
This course is broken down into eight sessions, 4 sessions at 60 minutes and 4 sessions at 90 minutes. The sequence of the sessions may vary.
The 90 minutes session will cover the following topics:
Session One: Individual experiences and cultural differencies
Students will talk about their personal experiences of seeking an employment in Canada. What did they try so far and why do they think it went wrong. Sudents will also talk about the cultural differences they have realised so far.
Session Two: Effective Resume
Students will learn about functionl and chronological resumes and situatiuons in which they are used. This will include do's and dont's and a section reviwe of how to write a resume.
Session Three: Persuasive Cover Letter and Portfolio
A well written cover letter and an outstandig portfolio helps students to stand out. Students will learn how tro write an persuasive cover letter and how to present their work.
Session Four: Interview Practice
Introduction to Canadian style interviews and different types of questions. Students will look at what employers expect to see at an interview. The interview practice will be individual with an feedback session.
The 60 minutes session will cover the following topics:
Session Five: Building Relationships
Students will work on skills needed to integrate themselves into an office setting. They will learn how to do small talk, introduce themselves and also learn about business customs in Canada.
Session Six: Customer Service
Students will practice language related to complaining and handling complaints.
Session Seven: Employment and Meetings
Students will practice the language and skills involved in managing meetings and participating in meetings.
Session Eight: Culture in the workplace
Students gain experience in the multi-cultural aspect of offices in Canada.
During the course WISH will start looking for a company and arrange an interview. So by the end of the course participants will have individual interview practise and the chance to present themselves to a company.
After a successful interview the internship period will start followed by work.
